You won't get over it if you don't try to go for him. Being real with you, the ones who don't take a chance are the ones who won't get over it for a while and the ones who let their friends control them let their friends get over themselves. Take a chance, it's better than silence. I regret not going after my crush when I found out that she liked me at the time later on. Does having a crush on him negatively impact your life at all? Like do you feel embarrassed about crushing on him or something? In general it's not bad to have a crush, even if you know it won't ever be returned, unless you feel like it's bothering you in some way.

You won't get over him unless you stop being around him for an extended period of time or unless you get rejected. In either case, its better to get closure by asking him out. I would just suggest doing it relatively quickly within a 2-3 day period that way you don't get too attached or waste your time. If he wants you, you will know.

Confessing might provide the closure you need. He accepts and you're happy or he refuses and you can move on not wondering about what-ifs.

If you're concerned about drama, I would just ignore it the best you can. Most of it is just gossip and so if you don't give it any power it normally disappears fairly quickly.
