Experience How do you prepare yourself for when people approach you ?

I feel as if im growing a bad reputation at my school for being unapproachable.

Everytime a guy has approached me ive completely ignored him because i dont know what to say nor have my voice cleared.
When girls have approached me ive just spoken too quietly or tried to end the conversation quickly.

I think people are beginning to talk trash behind my back because of it.

just like stay quiet first like if someone talks to you off guard stay quit first and think about quickly what would be a good response and like to keep conversations going ask just filler questions or some shit or compliment. like if a girl compliments me in the bathroom or something i will look at her quickly and compliment something that she has too and just like go with the flow.
