You need something that drives you to insanity. Something that is more painful than stubbing your toe on a cabinet or waving at someone who wasn’t actually waving to you.

Mine is numbers. I’ve had a fitness tracker since I started high school- and my only motivation to complete my day was to hit those 10k steps. This eventually progressed to me remembering dates when tragic events happened and that moment just sticks out to me for life now.

Find something that makes you enraged. It could be that one ex who made you go out of his house in a spiderman mask because he didn’t want you to meet his brother and his frat friends (which btw you’d never gone to his house before and couldn’t figure out how to open the door so you eventually got it and ran). Or it could be having every year of Highschool be misery because everyone wanted to attack you for things you couldn’t control. Sitting alone at the edge of a full lunch table is the most rope fuel you can get. Find that moment where it was so overwhelming you couldn’t breathe from fury.

When you have that moment in mind, draw it out. Write it out. Fold it into a million pieces and rip it up. Burn it. Singe it and drink it with a glass of water. Do anything that helps you get it out of your system. Now for the next month you do the same thing. You continue painfully resurfacing that moment until you know you can’t tolerate it anymore. Nothing changes if nothing changes/ you have to realize that you’re not going to get anywhere by not even attempting.

Habit stack. Start your morning off with the same things- I love a good coffee and Pilates workout in the morning, but repeat the same few things on your list. When you have it down, you start slipping in more items one by one. For example, you brush your teeth every morning but since you’re already in front of a mirror it wouldn’t hurt to add a moment dedicated to facial exercises. It’s so easy to start something off super strong- waking up at five am to run ten miles- but unfortunately it isn’t something that most people stick to. If you slowly change your routine, you won’t even notice that you’re doing more.

Focus on your health indicators. I’m not one to judge a person for their diet as time constraints and socioeconomic status play in hand with this, but you need to shift to a balanced approach. Some people like to say everything in moderation is good- but the key part is portion size. It is so incredibly easy to overeat, so either proportioning snacks or better yet prepping your food is a good way to start making better choices. Depending on your region, different fruits and veg are in season: making them cheaper. Most of your grocery shopping should be from the outskirts of the store- stick to the basics and learn to make some healthier alternatives to junk foods. I switched from pancakes to protein pancakes- one banana, one egg, and one scoop of protein powder. Less calories and I’m satiated for longer. If ya need any meal ideas or recipes I am free to recommend.

Eat in smaller quantities, move more, and practice some gratitude. Comparing yourself to other people isn’t the way to go. Instead take progress photos, or even vlog your transformation as a way to keep yourself accountable.

Lastly, make a playlist of the most traumatic songs that were associated with bad experiences. Listen on repeat. Let the voices win.

Thank me in a month.
