If by “zoning out” you mean your attention drifts away when you’re trying to focus, a few approaches tend to help:


  1. Reduce obvious distractions
    • Put your phone out of reach.
    • Close unrelated tabs or apps.
    • Work in a quieter environment if possible.
  2. Give your brain a specific target
    • Instead of “study biology,” try “complete 10 practice questions.”
    • Clear, concrete goals make it easier to stay engaged.
  3. Use shorter focus periods
    • Try 20–30 minutes of focused work followed by a 5-minute break.
    • Many people zone out less when the task feels time-limited.
  4. Stay physically engaged
    • Sit upright, stand occasionally, or take brief walks.
    • Fatigue and inactivity can make mind-wandering more frequent.
  5. Get enough sleep
    • Sleep deprivation is one of the biggest causes of zoning out, poor concentration, and mental fog.
  6. Notice when it starts
    • When you realize your mind has drifted, gently redirect your attention to the task.
    • The goal isn’t to never drift; it’s to catch it sooner.
 
If you're talking about zoning out in school then this is what I do

It really helps me when I'm listening to some chill music while in class, I just have only one airpod in so I can hear the teacher.

And if you're talking about zoning out while doing different stuff then I would recommend watching some stimulating videos in the background, like subway surfers gameplay, slime videos as ironic as it sounds - it works for me so it might as well work for you 🤔
