Aspirin has many benefits, but also some drawbacks. This will cover gut related aspirin drawbacks, as it can act as an irritant to the gut even in low dose daily therapy amounts, of around 40-81mg.
Aspirin by default, whether store bought buffered, home buffered, coated + having fillers or not, will effect the gut micriobiome by messing with the COX-1 enzyme
The benefits of making buffered aspirin at home is that it has no fillers or coatings, just the plain aspirin.
First off, you need 2oz or 1/4 cup of water, and heat in the microwave for around 10 seconds. Then add a tiny amount of baking soda, and drop the tablet, a half tablet, or a quarter tablet in. (Depends on the tablet quantity of medicine ofc) This will make it neutralize aspirins acidic components so it’s less irritating on the gut
You should let it dissolve completely after the baking soda and hot water, and drink the mixture once slightly cooled and fully dissolved.
You could buy generic buffered aspirin but there’s coatings and fillers that could cause inflammation, but if you can’t be asked to do this simple shit I guess you could.
The next step is likely the most crucial, as COX-1 inhibits PGE2 a prostaglandin which protects the stomach linings, and the thing that counteracts this is glycine. If necessary, or if already damaged, you should lower milk and cheese intake (high in methionine) which is inflammatory when unbalanced. This is why people consume glycine powder, bone broth, skin on animals, or gelatin packets with drinks or other things. kefir is also great, general gut health practices to ensure that it doesn’t irritate it too much, but glycine and not excessive methionine will make sure that it’s in check.
