I go to college in about 3 1/2 months and i’m 6’1, 160 pounds at ~ 17% body fat. I’ve been going to the gym for 7 1/2 months, so I’m still a beginner.
I’m currently lean bulking but I just realized that by the time college starts, i’ll be ~ 18-20% body fat and my face will descend (I’m actually starting to see bloat kick in already). But, it will also allow me to be fully optimized and maximize muscle growth. I’d lean bulk for all of freshman year and spend my freshman year being a bit subhuman, but then I’d have a great muscle base to do an aggressive cut leading into my sophomore year of college and mog for the rest of college. I’d be able to maintain that body fat% and slowly build a very impressive physique at the cost of being subhuman my freshman year
Or
I could body recomp over the summer and slowly lose fat and build very slight muscle. I’d lose enough fat to get to sub 15% body fat. Not shredded, but my face leanness genetics are pretty solid, so I know I’ll definitely be able to mog at that body fat%. However, I’d spend nearly 4 months not being able to maximize muscle growth. It’d take a bit longer to achieve my preferred body fat % and muscle mass, likely middle of sophomore year compared to start of sophomore year if I do the first option. I’ll go into college being slightly twink ish, but I’d lean bulk comfortably and not get fat at all my freshman year and end it at like ~ 16% body fat with a decent amount of muscle
What is the best move? Optimize muscle and my future or slightly delay my future potential to have a good freshman year
