I can pump myself full of happiness just by being grateful but it’s not actually a useful thing. I can get happy by the smallest things like scoring in a video game and being thankful for that. That doesn’t translate to actually being able to do what i want to do. Happiness is not an intrinsically desirable state. It is only desirable if it’s a byproduct of something that i want.

I guess this also applies to getting external validation from people. Like yeah i can get people to love me in a conversation but it’s not actually desirable even though i might enjoy it to some extent.
