Being intelligent doesnt have anything to do with knowledge or morals. Its hard to define intelligence and I wont try rn.
But some people, you can just tell theyre stupid, not by their opinions or arguments, but by their ability of interpreting situations. Unintelligent people often latch on to a single interpretation quickly, and treat it as certain, even when they lack information. Intelligent people understand that there are many possible interpretations, and withhold judgement until they have sufficient context.
The difference show up on how people respond to uncertainty or disagreement. If an opinion sounds wrong to me, I ask clarifying questions, consider different perspectives, and do my own research. I dont claim “thats not true!” before verifying information throughly. Unintelligent people jump the gun and say “thats not true!” despite not being well informed on the subject.
Not every disagreement needs to be resolved. Its sometimes ok to ask the other person questions instead of attacking, do your own research if the subject interests you, and then claim “thats not true”, if you happen to meet another person with the same opinion down the line. Its not about opinions themselves, but the cognitive discipline behind forming them.
If I know someone is jumping the gun on me and starting an argument, instead of being respectful and asking questions, I wont be their private teacher and argue back.
