They are like leeches. If you give more into their demands, you will lose your own. They will try to extract from you as much as they can.

I don't do charity for this reason. They will never be satisfied with what they are offered. Whenever I see a ragpicker or street homeless beggar or househelp, I just stay aloof.

You are proving me right. I am a struggling middle class, that means I am in no position to give more to poor.

I can only donate some to those poor whom I cannot see again as they will keep on asking me again and again. I have seen being nice works against you.

We need to change the definition of poor. Being educated, having home and internet doesn't disqualifies you from being poor.

As long as I am not in top 10th percentile in income in India, I am not fortunate.

The biggest philanthropists are big billionaires, industrialists and businessmen

Living paycheck to paycheck, struggling to have enough savings, cannot afford to offer good things to unfortunate, that means I am not rich.

In India, the middle class is stagnant, poor and rich class is rising. Poor get welfare schemes from govt and their lifestyle has improved in last 20 years. The top 1% have their lobby in govt who help them evade barriers.
 
Well you most certainly aren’t rich
