I sinned today

It is my friend’s birthday today but they live in the United States. I said I would celebrate together with them, and asked them what kind of cake they were gonna have today and they told me they were baking some dish for themselves. I was like, oh shoot, idek what that is, but I’ll see if I can find it. I found a store that sells it, however, two different people informed me beforehand there’s alcohol in it. After I placed my order, I asked the worker if there’s alcohol in it. They tell me, “Yes, but it’s just a little, not enough to make you drunk.” I was like “Oh, okay..” Anyway, I just ate it and it tasted super good. But sadly, I’ve sinned in the process, since I’ve consumed alcohol. 😔 I’m getting some more tomorrow. 🫠🤙

Personally I think as long as you don’t get intoxicated it’s not a big deal. But I know most have a more “hardline” way to see it so they avoid it altogether, even if it’s 0.00001%. But I also know my personal opinion and scholarly opinions are two different things. Islamic people are very against alcohol consumption no matter how minor.

It is not haram to eat it AFAIK, because you need to eat so much of it that it's impossible to be drunk, same with like fruits etc

Really? This is the first time I’ve heard that it’s different when you eat it. Perhaps it’s the Shafi’i view?

I don't know which exactly it was tbh, too lazy to look it up but I saw a Sheikh say that it is premissible to eat that as long as you can't become intoxicated in small amounts from it

Acid, yeah. Just like, three times. But I’m not actively a drug user. I think it’s good I did it because I realized the sober life is the only way I want to live life. 🤙 Not touching drugs ever again.

He is widely followed by western Islamics, they tend to use his fatwas. I’m personally not a fan of this guy but I know many are.

yeah I think ive consumed a lot of alcohol in the past accidentally but I dont think its that big of a deal aslong as it doesnt make you drunk
and yeah the tiramisu tastes good bhai but still even if alcohol is not considered haram by some sheikh in the quran it still says its not allowed

I wasn’t religious in high school, so I drank alcohol. I downed a bunch of beer bottles as an underage and underweight teenager but still I didn’t get drunk. Might be dat dere Punjabi genes.

That’s what I think, too. You’re right about avoiding alcohol in general. But do you know that alcohol wasn’t always haram? It wasn’t until the Muslims began showing up intoxicated at the mosque for prayers that it was outlawed. Personally, I think the keyword here is “intoxicated,” but that’s just my own view and not the mainstream view.

Ma sha Allah. Yes, there’s always a reason but it’s not always given. Sometimes we can use logic to come to certain conclusions. Pork, for instance, can lead to cancer.

Still consuming it despite knowing it contains alcohol is a sin. But Allah is all forgiving so your repentance would get accepted insh.

What about the sheikh’s fatwa in the video posted by @tuberculosisinmybal, as well as that of other scholars who agree with the opposite of what you’re saying?

EDIT: For clarification, I'm not asking it to justify myself. I'm just wondering why isn't every scholar agreeing with that notion? Is it just a difference of scholarly opinion? Speaking of opinions, what do you personally think of cigarettes, are they haram?

He’s asking whether or not this invalidates prayer, and not if it’s sinful as he consumed it without knowing it had alcohol inside it. Also Sheikh assim al hakim is pretty controversial so I’d look into other scholars. Alcohol is generally forbidden, whether in small amounts or not. This comes in a Hadith,
“If a large amount of something intoxicates, then even a small amount of it is haram.”
(Abu Dawood 3681)

Some scholars opinions differ because they have different interpretations and evidences and that’s okay but it’s best to follow the general consensus and only listen to very trusted scholars.

I cant deem whether or not cigarettes are haram, as I’m not God, but I personally stay away from it as Islam forbids anything harmful and scientifically cigarettes *are* harmful.

I asked you because I was trying to gauge whether you were following a certain maddhab. In Hanafi school, cigarettes are considered makruh, but the Moroccans here deem it haram (as they are followers of the Maliki school, if they aren't salafists). Why don't you personally like that sheikh, any specific reason why you consider him to be controversial? I was under the impression he was well-liked by the Islamic community.
