Prologue
I haven't done an experiment thread in a long time. The last one I did was last year having to do with the rotting experiment. I was talking with my brother a few months ago when he told me about the Circadian Rhythm and why it is important to use it for my sleep schedule. I was skeptical, so I decided to test this idea for myself. Unfortunately I did not document day by day experiences in individual threads for this current experiment. But I will still document the experience here.
What Is the Circadian Rhythm?
To keep it basic, the Circadian Rhythm is the body's natural internal clock that goes through 24 hours of being awake and being asleep. Now of course this has been proved in studies etc. but I still wanted to test this by myself.
How I Set This Experiment Up
The experiment's setup is actually pretty simple to say the least. I usually go to bed at around 8:30 to 9 considering I have to wake up at 6 in the morning. I decided change my sleep schedule by 2 hours and is now go to bed at 11 pm for a total of two weeks. Then after that, I'd go back to my normal sleep schedule and then document my findings.
My Findings
Week 1
Over the course of the first week of going to sleep at 11 PM and still waking up at 6 AM, you could probably take a good a guess on how I felt. I was insanely tired but it pretty much matched my prediction on what was going to happen but things would change over the course of the next few weeks.
Week 2
In this week I was met with some pretty surprising results. I woke up almost every single day and I wasn't tired. I went to work and I was productive and I was able to do active activities such as basketball with ease. I would then head back to going to bed and the results once again surprised me.
Week 3
Here am I again back on the normal sleep schedule. On the first day, I expected to wake up the morning, jump up from my bed and get ready for the day but I woke up, and I almost immediately went back to sleep. This is pretty much how it was for the first 3 days of the week. Then things went back to normal.
Conclusion
This isn't a very complicated experiment so don't expect complicated answers. This experiment did therefore prove to me that the Circadian Rhythm is real. When I went back to my normal sleep schedule, removing myself from going to bed at 11 PM, I was even more tired despite getting 2 extra hours of sleep. This is all I needed to know. The body gets used to certain amounts of sleep as long as it is not too extreme when it comes to sleeping times. For example, 14 hours or 2 hours of sleep. That's all I really have to say. Sorry for any typos in advance.
Ty for reading if you did brah.
