I saw a tik tok video regarding autistic women, saying that autism doesn’t affect women whatsoever because they get a free pass on everything they do.

Imo, women even ND ones have it generally easier to be in group because our autism often gets idealised and patronised (even the person in the video was doing this lol) and seen as something „quirky”, but we cannot maintain those friendships at all as autism isn’t anything quirky whatsoever and genuinly ruined all my chances at friendships irl, the second you actually show your symptoms normies are so quick to drop you or just be mean

Also female friendships come with even more hidden social cues that even NT men cannot pick up on half the time, meaning us ND women have almost 0 chance at keeping a friendship with women, and nobody wants to be the only girl in a male group, which is why we isolate so much.

i agree tbf nd women also experience extreme social anxiety and struggle with overwhelming emotions. and its genuinely hard to maintain friends and autism makes school so hard genuinely
