Do you believe that artifical intelligence is the natural successor to Homo sapiens?

Think about it, there have been an estimated 15 extinction events for our genus. Homo Erectus, Neanderthals, and others, are all gone.
Homo Sapiens (us) are all that are left. But when is our extinction event? More importantly, what causes it?
Is it going to nuclear war? Theological attack? Or is it going to be AGIs, that eventually outsmart and outpower us.

What do you think? Are we currently creating our successor? How long before they have a developed consciousness?
AI is a big buzzword currently, but it's so fucking interesting.

Ai and quantum computers will be worshiped in 10 years the will have to the power to end humanity with nukes and weapons eventually so will be able to make itself a body not of metal but of tissues and things like that and use wires to connect to earth with it's body

Our "natural successor" wouldn't be the right phrase to use, as we created AI ourselves unlike Homo Erectus, Neanderthals, etc.

I think they could have the ability to outpower us. BUT I also believe we are in full control of that, which is why I think it won't happen. Good thread

I mean technically Neanderthals weren’t completely extinct as unless ur from Africa you have some Neanderthal dna

Yeah, in hindsight, natural was the wrong term. I guess artifical successor will do. It will all depend on the policy-makers, whether to fully accelerate, or securely moderate. think about it like this, we're building smt that's our 'functional' successor, def not biological tho. agi (still sci-fi for now) doesn't need consciousness, feelings, or a soul to replace us. it just needs to be better at desicion making on large scales for less money. companies are already doing this. ex: real ppl getting replaced by ai in the workplace.

but keep in mind, nuclear war is still the fastest option, and all it takes is one autist leader and the planet is gone. there's also climate collapse to think of, maybe even biotech if some r****d gets a hold of crispr or smt. ai doesn't really have any physical manifestations that could survive any sort of natural selection yet. if ai advances to the point where it does, best case we get wall-e, worst case literally any other sci-fi movie.

after we stop being the most relevant decision makers, it's over.

We're not going to be extinct we would explore the Universe and keep evolving
