I heard about it a fortnight ago and I had already read the book, so I figured why not (the book is "a gentleman in Moscow" by Amor Towles, one of my favs since my mom recommended it to me
). I arrived late cause I acc have a life and the thing starts at 10am, I walk in and ofc they were all either old fat fucks or students.
they spent the whole time complaining about A.T. being sexist and that the way he writes women is a tragic reflection of muh internalized misogyny and his other personal flaws. it was moslty balding chubby discord moderator looking dudes repeating this stuff over and over, obviously trying to win the favor of the very few women present. this performative yapfest was only interrupted occasionally by someone talking about some other book they read for some fucking reason I'm sure i don't know
I tried to pivot the convo toward the actual book, cause I had some theories abt it relating to the authors other works. discord f*g was like "yeah that's heckin cool buddy, anyways bla bla bla sexism, capitalism, exciting current event" then a dude with a beard and a gay ass earring went: "I wanted to add something else about how poorly written the women are" like that hadn't already been the topic of discussion for the past 20min
so yeah it fucking sucked. I might go back cuz one of the chicks there was decent looking
