I don't think it's that deep tbh. Yes, it's shaped by our environment, but it is who we are.

So much of it that people have evolved to make up their entire personality’s and interests

I think compromising a little bit to fit in is just a normal part of human nature. Ofc on this forum it happens quite a bit more, but I still think the persona people put on is representative of their personality somewhat. People would not larp as something completely unlike them.
