Whenever I ignore people in the past, I always removed them because it was kinda funny to see their replies , sometimes interesting as well. It's very rare I've kept a person on ignore for long, and generally it hinders the experience especially on a smaller forum like this
Other people are similar, it's been an observation that no one really ignores each other, especially prominent users, that little notification saying shownignored content is pretty annoying in it itself

I’ve never put anyone on ignore, and I don’t see myself ignoring anyone any time soon either. And as you said, especially on a forum with smaller member count, it’s not really worth it.
