He needs Jesus to change him with His Holy Spirit otherwise he may not know how to love, I was also like that before God changed me. A narcissist not really caring with gf.

I think that had he had a more NT approach like Paul Salidino about promoting this certain way of living, then more people would hear him out. But he just does a disservice to himself by not caring, so your right, he lacks empathy.
