if you spend a lot of time around a person you have a bad first impression of, you'll eventually stop seeing them for their looks and more for who they are and how they talk

perhaps maxxing social skills is the highest EV thing you can do

Ye but no one would want to spend a lot of time around an unattractive person. They'll probably just be weirded out by everything they say and do.
there are some interactions heavily biased by first impressions
dating apps for instance
if you look ugly they can just move on to the next person
but consider other interactions where ppl tend to be invested and aren't turned away by your looks
for instance a shared hobby group
even if you look ugly you can spend time with ppl and manufacture your own halo effect

I've met quite a few people in the past few days who looked absolutely horrendous
but after hearing them speak for a while, they didn't look that bad to me
they seemed like nice ppl
I feel like thats because you know about the concept, i also do this, in my social interactions looks dont really matter to me because once i know what my brain goes through i can supress whatever feeling ill have favoring someone or not, but normies just have it unconsciously and cannot control it mainly bc they arent aware of it

well I am not saying it isn't real
but I think LM/blackpill spaces exaggerate it significantly
Could you elaborate more on that?

but I have felt this without actively thinking of the halo effect
I remember somebody who manufactured their halo effect so well that they gave me "popular HTN" vibes (i think I posted about this before)
then I took a step back and realized he was LLTN
however he talked well enough that his halo effect got to me before his looks did

Can manipulate personal SMV but your value to the market itself is the halo effect.

Could you elaborate more on that?
I initially entered this entire space of the internet through .is first
on that site there was a sense that looks were totalizing in the sense that if you were short or ugly, you were unlovable
but empirically that is false, if dating was skewed towards attractive people as 80/20 suggests then far more men would be lonely
inceldom wouldn't just be a problem in a corner of the internet but everywhere out on the streets
now of course if your face is deformed your changes of finding somebody go down a lot
but BP exaggerates the effect of looks
there are many LLTNs out there finding relationships and getting married

but what market are you on? dating apps? then ofc looks will dominate. there is a striking lack of commitment and involvement on dating apps, so anyone can find a better person within 5 seconds and drop you

but what about meeting people naturally? say through friends? your value as a person becomes far more tied to who you are rather than your appearance

So why don’t you think the halo effect is real?

what situations do you want to optimize for? do you want to slay after knowing someone for a single day? then looks absolutely matter. I will not deny the importance of the halo effect (the one sourced from looks) here. for interactions that lead to LTRs, looks do not matter as much

perhaps I'm kinda mixing things up
when I say halo effect I mean in the LM sense, where looks make your personality more appealing to people, more trustworthy, etc
but I am proposing a second halo effect, sourced from how you talk and behave rather than your looks
I am saying the effect of the second halo effect is incredibly power (can make a LLTN look like a HTN) and is underrated

The market has globalized, and it’s in everyplace you go.
So the halo effect will be how your treated at the store, at work, on the bus…

You can change your SMV later but you get a set score early and it’s hard to change it

because the halo effect lies in the imaginary plane

Does he get the halo effect?

on the extreme end yes
unless you have some genetic condition that screwed you over, most people can do basic grooming and whatnot to get an average SMV
and at that point SMV doesn't make a huge difference in how you are treated (in my opinion)

Close ngl, he’s in the community. A lot of people rate him CL-Chad, do you agree?
ngl shit picture since camera distortion but if I were to analyze him

- eye area isn't terrible but not the best, bad ESR tho
- large midface
- lots of downward growth

ratio issues set max ceiling of MMTN for a rating
I would say HLTN since he doesn't look terrible
