Causes and Transmission
Bacteria: Neisseria gonorrhoeae is the causative bacteria, which thrives in warm, moist areas of the body, including the urethra, cervix, throat, and rectum.
Transmission: It spreads through vaginal, oral, or anal sex without a condom, or during childbirth from an infected parent to a newborn.

Treatment and Prevention
Treatment: While some strains are antibiotic-resistant, it is typically treated with antibiotics, often a single injection of ceftriaxone.
Prevention: The most effective prevention is using condoms correctly every time. Regular testing is recommended for sexually active individuals, particularly those under 25, to avoid complications.

Risk Factors and Complications
Risk Factors: Sexually active individuals under 25, those with new or multiple sexual partners, and men who have sex with men are at higher risk.
Untreated Complications: If left untreated, gonorrhea can cause Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) in women, infertility in both men and women, increased risk of HIV transmission, and rare disseminated gonococcal infections (infection of joints, skin, or blood).
