that is exactly what i thought, i wanted to get the issue fixed definitively and comprehensively rather than a relatively quick fix. but even the surgeon himself recommended against double jaw surgery despite it being more lucrative because my bite is already fixed via earlier orthodontics and my concerns are more so centered around mid face deficiency etc. he says double jaw surgery would also have more aesthetic withdrawals then the implant solution due to widening nose base despite the alar cinch. If you're spending thousands regardless, I would do it correctly instead of quickly. Double jaw surgery is objectively better long term. If your surgeon is good then the risks associated with jaw surgery would be quite lower.
If you have 28k already then I would just get a loan for the rest.
If your situation is so complex surgeons are hesitant to perform, then I assume your issue is beyond it being cosmetic. I wouldn't cover it up and then hope I age well with in 20 years, I would just get the concern fixed directly.
Have you spoken to several surgeons? When I was getting info about eyelid surgery (very mild in comparison) or my ortho/braces I spoke to like 5 people each before I did either. It doesn't matter if he's the best if he's all you spoken to.that is exactly what i thought, i wanted to get the issue fixed definitively and comprehensively rather than a relatively quick fix. but even the surgeon himself recommended against double jaw surgery despite it being more lucrative because my bite is already fixed via earlier orthodontics and my concerns are more so centered around mid face deficiency etc. he says double jaw surgery would also have more aesthetic withdrawals then the implant solution due to widening nose base despite the alar cinch.
which is where the conflict lies, if it truly was better for me he would certainly recommend it due to the monetary benefits. and this is the best maxillofacial surgeon in the country, and the difference between 28k and 45k is significant.
A ‘functional’ bite dosent really exist if you have poor development, its the same way someone can have a straight nose with a very depressed maxilla because their whole face is recessed and thus compensates for the other recessions.yeah ive spoken to 2 other consultants on the matter, and they’ve all expressed some form of hesitation, and lean more to the implants solution. i was dead set on doing orthognathic surgery, so if was quite jarring to hear that it wouldn’t be the best fix, since it is widely considered to be so.
i think it’s more so that my bite is completely functional because even though i had malocclusion and still have a skeletal malocclusion, the orthodontic work done prior was super good my teeth are super straight and my bite is functional. and after all jaw surgery is more so about the bite then anything, the aesthetic benefits are secondary. so my surgeon positioned it like this why put 300% more effort via jaw surgery for something that will only add 5% more in improvement compared to the implant pathway. he said in life one has to “cheat” sometimes.
the complexity seems to be rooted in the sheer asymmetry, it wouldn’t just be the standard moving the mandible back and maxilla forward, theres apparently a lot of rotating and yeah.
well my bite is functional in that i can chew, eat, drink and breathe with no problem. i don’t have a recession of the mandible so there is nothing causing airway issues there.A ‘functional’ bite dosent really exist if you have poor development, its the same way someone can have a straight nose with a very depressed maxilla because their whole face is recessed and thus compensates for the other recessions.
Generally DJS would be the superior choice, but it’s difficult to know without looking at you. Could you maybe post some pictures?
Is DJS + implants an option or is that too invasive for you?
If you post pics tag mewell my bite is functional in that i can chew, eat, drink and breathe with no problem. i don’t have a recession of the mandible so there is nothing causing airway issues there.
but then see you are talking about aesthetics, when you talk about having a straight noise that doesn’t necessarily correlate to any functional impairments and it doesn’t for my situation. what i can get with double jaw surgery (maxilla projection) can be better and cheaply achieved through implants and genio, apparently.
i did consider that pathway of doing both, but that would ultimately be too expensive. i do qualify to get it done freely on my Public Health service but the wait would be 4 years, and id be paying with my youth via time, which is something im not willing to do.
i can dm you?If you post pics tag me
