Is determinism r

Why would it be predetermined if you can choose what you do
Cause of the environmental factors you were born into and a lot of other surroundings that you don’t choose that contributes to your decision and form your way of thinking

they absolutely do contribute to your decisions but the choice still exists if you feel for example you could have pickpocketed/robbed a store today but you didn't

What if you were born black in a gang and that’s there way of living

there are always that small minority of blacks that find there more to life then gang banging and against all odds get into good colleges and lead good lives

while the vast majority will be shaped by the environment there is the choice to try in school but it is not taken simply because it is seen as to hard or seen as "white" to do good in school

Being black was just an example but also the people who changed their way were predetermined to do it cause of another influence and other factors

sure maybe they saw something that changed their worldview but really its just intelligence and the smarter ones see the futility in leading an existence similar to their peers and want to instead carve a different patch and make different choices even if not "predetermined to

Ok but being smarter and how they think is also predetermined by their genes and surroundings

It can be genetic but it can also depend on choices made by parents (smoking drinking while pregnant, and proper nutrition)

It’s still out of the kid control and predetermined btw

Who do you think determines it
If you're talking about free-will and stuff, in current neuroscience the consensus is your actions are determined before you're conscious of them. In that aspect, I say it it's deterministic.

But what do you mean by that question? It's a bit vague.

DNR

We live in a deterministic Universe

With that free will cannot exist in any way

Compatibilism is giga cope

I don’t think you do
Subconsciously I think some things instinctively guide us. Especially hormonally it plays a huge role. But we still make the conscious decisions or the final decision. There are things out of your control like where you are born in etc

yah I heard about that, your brain starts working before you are even conscious in taking decisions, I meant our world as a whole what determines its fate

not predetermined because it relys on choices made by parents, no once forced them not to take care of their kid
If we imply what we said about the kids to the parents then their choices are also predetermined any ways the kid still has no choice here

Yeah, it's the initial conditions, the big bang. Quantum fluctuations and the inherent randomness of it just adds noise, but doesn't make it less "deterministic" on the macro scale (brain). I would say.

That's how I personally see it. But that's just my uneducated guess.

Everything is out of your control objectively

Explain like what? Rn I can go to my car start it and drive any place that’s an hour or 2 away. You can make decisions lol.

OMFG

I didnt expect yall on this Forum to be this retarded

muh but I can do this and that RN

YEAH IDIOT

there is reason for you doing it

Nothing can come from nothingness

There always has to be a cause

Some people confuse determinism with lack of choices when both coexist. You were destined to made a choice on something, for example

kids have no chose but for avg ppl they really become anything, for example 2 twins can be born and lead vastly different lives despite being the exact same at birth and being almost equal eg winner and loser lane

You having a car and the place you’ll choose is predetermined

If they went through the exact same conditions this can’t happen

its a real story, choices they made lead to the conditions that allowed for loser to become a police detective and winner to become a criminal

Every cognitive model is wrong by incompleteness. Physics and chemistry don't explain reality, just observations on very limited aspects. If everything had a cause there should be only one main factor behind particles: the Greek atom, yet if that was true the universe would be exclusively made by that particle like a consistent piece of cake, and that's not the case. Universe don't bow to first principles Logic, it is the multiple systems of thinking (logic) that is constructed to make enough sense of world dynamics to achieve something.
