I am 17yo. I think I got tmj. My face is lopsided to the left, left chin is lower than right chin. When I move my jaw to the left and right it pops at my left side. It doesn’t pop when I open or close my mouth. It only pops (no pain yet) when moving side to side. I also grind my teeth when I am sleeping. My dentist gave me a mouthguard 1 year ago, but this popping issue came like 4 months ago. Does someone know what I can do bc I feel like this make my face more asymmetrical and I don’t want that this problem will be worser. I also began chewing gum this month but it feels like I need to stop it.

As someone with tmj, depending on how severe it is, there are ways to mitigate the pain and popping your joint creates. What's worked for me in helping my jaw is working on the movement of surrounding muscles such as the neck, doing physiotherapy, massages, chewing properly to develop my masseters to take load off the joint, and acupuncture.

Quick pointers: get the teeth grinding fixed, because that could be devastating, and do not move your jaw side to side, it's not meant to move that way.

I got custom made mouth guards. What can I do more. Thanks for the tip of not moving my jaw side to side

Everything I listed is pretty much the extent I went to to resolve my problems. Make sure you are aware when you're eating and chewing so that you do not over do anything with your joint.

I have moderate TMJ, I can feel my jaw grinding on the left side if I move it to the side at all. Chewing gum will only make it worse. Avoid cracking/popping it if possible, and not opening your mouth very wide as that will only make it worse too. Just try to ignore it and take Advil if it hurts enough. Grinding your teeth is also awful as N3ON brought up, I do it too and it's what starts TMJ for most people.

I don't have any asymmetry from it personally, other than a very mild drooping on the right side and some jaw asymmetry (left is more definied). Certain exercises can help reverse some dislocation apparently, but that sounds like coping to me ngl.
