Life isn’t really about love, purpose, or fairness. Strip the delusion and you’ll see it’s mostly about victims and perpetrators. Those who take, and those who get taken from. Some people are born with traits that let them manipulate, extract, dominate. They become the ones who control the game. Others, molded by trauma or simply lacking the tools, end up playing defense their whole lives, telling themselves they’re “nice” or “moral” while being stepped on.

Most jobs, relationships, even friendships are covert power struggles. The winner isn’t the most moral, it’s the one who hides their strategy best. In dating, it’s about who gives validation and who withholds it. In society, it’s about who exploits guilt better. And the saddest part is that most victims don’t even know they’re victims. They think it’s just bad luck or fate. They keep coping, romanticizing the cage.

Morality is often just a tool used by the powerful to keep the weak in line. If you don’t learn to play the game, you get played. There’s no neutral ground, you’re either extracting or being extracted.

The reward system of long-term thinking goes on opposite way though, agriculture, planning, cooperation, is what shaped the rise of certain civilizations. Empathy, guilt, morality, these traits weren’t always weaknesses. In the context of cold climates and delayed gratification, they became survival tools. You needed to think ahead, suppress impulse, trust the tribe. Over generations, this bred populations more attuned to future outcomes and collective well-being.

That’s why the most empathetic groups, especially Europeans, ended up dominating the world. Not because they were more ruthless, but because their version of empathy was wired into structure and control. They built systems, laws, economies, not out of kindness, but because it worked long term. And ironically, this made them the best at organizing large scale domination: colonialism, capitalism, empire.
