step 1) wait until an hour before sunset
step 2) find a place to pose so that the sunlight is shining directly towards you
step 3) hold the camera/phone as far away as possible. this minimizes lens distortion. later you should crop the image to frame your face/remove arm from the photo.
step 4) take a ton of pics, you will sort through them later to pick the best ones. if you intend to look at the camera (generally not considered ideal), make sure to look at the lens (eg on a small phone camera lens)
step 5) after selecting the best pics, touch them up lightly to remove skin imperfections (do not go overboard here) then try a few different filters.
Be careful not to cast harsh shadows on your face.
