A few months ago I came across a surgical technique which can be used to grow bone through positive electrical impulses on a bone, provided by an implant. See the attached article from the journal Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (Volume 46, Issue 1) before you read further.

Osteogenesis Modulation: Induction of Mandibular Bone Growth in Adults by Electrical Field for Aesthetic Purposes
Authors:
* Gregorio Hernandez Zendejas
* Marek K. Dobke
* Andrew Phelps
* Gabriel Planas
* Marco Sanchez

If this treatment modality is legitimate, then it is superior to a genioplasty and a bilateral sagittal split to correct an undersized chin and mandible in almost every way, as it is vastly less invasive, costly, and risky than those surgeries. Furthermore, if it works on other bones as it does on the mandible, then it could be used to correct an underdeveloped mid-face and asymmetrical facial bone structure with few side effects. It could even treat congenital short stature with fewer side effects than the existing treatments, the only issue being the rather major one where soft tissues must be lengthened to allow a full range of movement with longer leg bones.

The only real downside is that it takes a relatively long time to complete, which itself isn't a bad thing because the treatment can be adjusted as it progresses. The downside there is that it may be disrupted if the implant is detached from the bone, but the surgery itself is minor compared to the surgeries it replaces, so this is no issue for me.

Anyways, I am here to ask if anyone:
1. has experience with this treatment?
2. knows of a licensed surgeon who offers this treatment?
3. has contacted one or more of the authors and received a reply?
4. here is a medical professional and can critique this paper and treatment in any way?

Thank you for taking the time to read this post, and I hope we have a productive discussion.
