Looking for advice on what to do with my hair.

so for a while I simply ran my fingers through my hair with some product and created a bit of a messy look:
What’s worth noting tho is that I ran my fingers through my hair before taking both of these, and trying this hair style comes at the risk of looking like
A while ago I got a pretty short hair cut and I style it like so:

That was about 1 1/2 months ago and here’s a picture I just took


Honestly I’m thinking that maybe I should learn how to cut my own hair, then about every month I’ll cut it to the length in the second to last picture, what do you guys think?
