I’m 26 years old. I will get MARPE posterior. I am asking if I should add a facemask. Also, my maxilla is like 2.5/3.2mm recesed and I’m asking if someone has any experience with that or maybe tried this already. I was hoping to be able to get some forward projection with the facemask. I would be able to wear it for like 14 hours daily, but the evidence that it moves the maxilla forward seems to be limited, probably more like 0.5-1mm forward, but people claim they got more. Does anyone have any advice ?

It ended up reshaping one of my relatives entire face, they had a really terribly narrow palate and the device completely fixed it. This was an extreme case, if your palate is only slightly thin I dont think it would really do that much for your face besides make it look wider

could you send a pdf of the face mask you want to get

Not sure which one I will get, but I will get a chest-forehead one. I am still doing research. My palate is only slightly thin, but I want that forward projection. I’m just not sure if a facemask will do anything. I don’t really want to get a Le Fort I osteotomy, so I am trying everything I can to avoid it. But let’s see what happens. I want to get like 2.5/3mm forward projection from the facemask if possible.

In all honesty a face mask wont end up doing much for you. The maxilla is such a large bone that makes up so much of the face that it would be impossible to change it in any way drastically without surgery. In most cases, brute force methods like the one you're trying to pursue do alot of damage to the front 7 or 8 teeth, and the payoff really is not there. If you get a face mask that attaches to the majority of your teeth on your top palate, that MIGHT be better, but regardless my main points stand.

As I am getting a posterior marpe, I was thinking to attach the facemask directly to the marpe device and not on the teeth. Also, I was thinking about the sleeping position. A lot of people sleep on their backs with the facemask, which is kind of stupid because the mask needs to fight gravity. So, I am also looking into optimising that part so that the facemask and gravity work in sync and both are pulling in the same direction.

you would literally have to sleep with your face and head fully free and exposed, and there arent many ways you can do that. Your marpe idea is good though, attaching any extender to the teeth is a terrible idea.

I think I should be able to get 1-ish mm forward projection with my setup, but it’s nothing I need like 2.7mm projection for the recession in my head to be quiet.

I don’t think a face mask will work if your not a teen anymore
