I really want to be a model or actor like Nettspend, but I always jester and never lookmax properly, and I'm fat and short. I'm 5'10" and 170—like, not super fat and not super short either, but still not perfect. I have green eyes and tan skin because I'm from Egypt, but my hair is thinning. It's much better now, but I'm just slowing down the inevitable. I think I have a very good personality, so rapping or acting isn't crazy, but idk, I'm probably just going to be a 9-5er. what do yall think i should do

ANYONE can model

NOBODY can act

I did like three years of high school theatre and some classes rn in college i think i can act lol
I mean in terms of actually landing work

go bald hit gym if u have the face you will prevail. many of my friends are models and are around 5'10-6'2. you just have to network and maybe sell your soul a little to actually get gigs. if you are serious about this and have the face for it anyone can do it tbh. go to local fashion shows and network, go to events in bigger cities and network, talk to photographers and other models. if you have the social skills then youre goated. if not then give up.

Ok, that's hella helpful, but wdym by "sell your soul a little"? I think I have the face, and how do you think I should carry myself in those fashion shows, and what do I do exactly when I show up? Just network?

Forget fashion shows, worry about taking good digitals first, befriend other models it helps so much they will invite u to events n look online

How do I become friends with models? I don't know anyone who models and don't even know where to look. Would there be any models on the forum?

basically ppl r gonna want you to work for free and maybe exploit you in the early stages w like free shoots for "exposure". but honestly no one gets paid gigs until they make it thru this stage.

as for demeanour, you should just be confident in yourself and ability. if you can go to events, go with a friend to make it less lonely and scary. one of the best things to do is to get peoples instagrams from these events and dm them after. follow the event pages/owners (theyll usually have the owner linked in bio if its a local thing) keep up to date with fashion events in your area and talk about upcoming/past events with people. also, the term "networking" sounds scary but rlly youre just trying to make acquaintances and turn them into friends.

also be somewhat blunt about your intentions. say youre looking to model and its your first time, tell them to keep you updated on other events/opportunities, ask them if theyd know anyone who is looking for models or know of any cool spots they should go to, ask about creative spaces/instagram pages to stay updated with. dont come off as desperate (like dont beg) but dont go without mentioning what youre interested in. also go to the afters, and stay late. best connections are made after the event.

Ngl, I don't mind modeling for free; that's calm tbh. I'd do 100 shoots for free as long as I don't have to pay, but how do I find these, especially locally? I looked everywhere online for gigs like that, from Instagram to Discord to even Craigslist. I don't have proper faceshots and digitals. I'm probably getting them soon but idk where to start and especially where to find exposure gigs

hmmmm do u hangout regularly in creative spaces? go to like any creative event just to get into that typa space. ru in uni? join clubs. or literally jus type into instagram "arts" or "modelling" and instagram pages u should have in your area would pop up if they have those keywords in their user/bio. do u have no one u cld ask? all artists are connected. u dont need to know a model to meet a model. a visual artist prolly knows a photographer who knows a model. such is the nature of networking. instagram is your best friend. build your online presence and hit up any of ur theatre friends.

also dont worry about digitals i dont have mine done but i get hella local shoots bc of ppl i know.

Not really. I'm not at that many creative spaces. I mean, there's the theater department and school, but I'm in community college and don't communicate with creatives that have connections. But I'm going to give Instagram another shot. but do you have any other recommendations or advice for a starter? I really appreciate your help.

go outside is the biggest advice. you cant do instagram alone you need real connections. instagram by itself only works if you are an influencer. use the fact that youre in community college to go to events and join clubs. go to arts, theatre, fashion events hosted by people at the college and network from there. genuinely thats the most impactful thing you could do.

Alright, bet. Thank you so much; you've been super helpful. Also, I found this site called Casting Networks. What do you think of that site? Is it legit?

never used it. only site ive used is kavyar but i didnt find it very useful. only had to use it because my photographer wanted to post the shoot on there for his portfolio. you could try the casting network no harm in putting yourself out there imo. but remember irl connections are more important.

I also want to be an actor we can be acting buddies man

You need to have connections in the industry unfortunately. Nepo babies always win

Probably connections, talent, looks in that order
If you can mimic the Netflix actors pretty good and be original you have a chance man
