you are not alone in this dilemma, I was also extremely lazy and complacent in my teenage years, ur background and upbringing play a role suprisingly more than you’d initially assume. I was the same, leaving things to the last minute, I held a super super laid back approach to life until around a year ago. I would assume things would just work out. And held a “fuck it” mentality in regards to the workplace, being late. “It is what is is” style mentality. And the good news that it’s 100% interchangeable. I had realised that I had nothing to say for myself, at around age 16 and 17. I was seeing my friends achieve. And it almost seemed to me that I was just happy with normality. It was only when I started disecting the issues. Staying up all the time until the early hours of the morning and wondering why I wasn’t getting up for work. Or my parents telling me it was like I had no motivation. I was really a recluse at these points in time. I struggled with social anxiety. And had the feeling that I was constantly being judged, this led to me having what seemed to be the sort of procrastination mindset that you’ve mentioned. I could go on and on about my past, I also believed that growing up in a privileged household, going to private school, and moving to manhattan in New York with my father who was a banker at the time to study at college. And eventually joining a fraternity. Had me surrounded by people who adopted a lazier way of life. Due to the fact that everything was handed to people on a golden plate. And that rubbed off on me in a way.
I guess what I’m trying to say is. To beat these negative habits. Which are by no means permanent. You have to find a source of meaning in life. Whether that be independence, or moving out of ur parents house, do something that makes life feel rewarding. Because that gives you more of a reason to follow the same positive actions and attitude that got you there. Repetition is absolutely key, you cannot let this take control. As you will gravely regret it in the future. When it comes to slacking. We can all be victims of this, you have to really force the discipline into yourself. But know deep down. No matter how deep in shit you feel like you are. People usually learn how to be their true self once their back is against the wall. I have so much more to say in the ways of potential advice. But I don’t want you reading a 24 page manuscript. Keep it up. The fact you are acknowledging these issues is already a large stepping stone cleared. Don’t stress my friend. It will work out in ur favour.
