I can't speak for myself i've had 2 female best friends that was purely platonic, but both of them at some point was very ambiguous about how they consider me.

Both at some point liked me a bit more than platonic friends. But it was complicated i was bff with girl n°1, then i started to befriend and spend time with girl n°2, n°1 got jealous and stopped talked to me, then i treated like trash n°2 we stopped talking, then we started to talk back with n°1 but it wasn't like before i was doing most efforts to spend time with her so once i finished management school i stopped talking to her

N°2 still wants to talk to me but i will just apologize if given the opportunity and move on.
