From the end of the earth
and the start of these words
a barren heart I hold
in hopes another smoke or flame
could hold the light the friendship faded
held so close to daylight
The tangle of threads all caught up in my mind
when I’m old and frail with the loss of you
a friend that swims in my head
will be the food the worms feed on
when I’m deep in the soil, laying my head
When I left and packed up my things
and prayed I’d move on
the memory of our friendship
faded to places I thought you’d never stay
And I admit I may have made a mistake.
But what’s left unsaid
will always find its way to whisper.
Although I have changed and grown
you will hang inside my soul
forever.
