Yeah, I'm pretty sure this idiot OP doesn't even know that the "X" in X-ray stands for "unknown". When German physicist Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen discovered this form of radiation in 1895, he did not understand its nature and therefore labelled it "X-radiation" to signify an unknown type of radiation. This name has persisted, even though the nature of the rays is now well understood. The term "X-ray" is used both to refer to the radiation itself and to the images produced using this method.
