calling someone narcy is extremely popular, so many use it incorrectly and it rages me. you probably don't even know what narcissism is firstly. so im going to explain narcissistic behaviour now.
common misconceptions about narcy faggots/why people would call you one are:
- being emotional
- overly confident and arrogant
- self pity/being insecure (debatable in my opinion but ive seen it happen)
exhibit one of these three behaviours and be labelled a narcissist forever by people.
what actual narcissism is? at their actual core they have excessive admiration for one self which translate to them seeking out attention from people excessively. they genuinely believe they are better than other people and expect more WHILE being exactly like everyone else. also being extremely self interested (lack of empathy blah blah). it is the genuine belief that they deserve more of anything compared to the average person.
arrogance is often confused with narcs but a good analogy for it is that:
arrogant people are chads who (deserve) and expect chad treatment because they actually have something to boast about
wheres a narcissist's arrogance is false because they are subhumans who expect chad treatment and have nothing to boast about
the reason why a narcissist is also insecure is because deep down they know they don't have the things they expect attention for.
ummmmm some unironic actual narcissistic behaviour would be:
- wanting to be the prettiest in the room ('its over if im not chad or stacy wahhh')
- if you are in an argument with them, they will immediately begin self pitying usually
- victimising theirselves (also in arguments, a form of manipulation imo)
- fantasies of being a ruler, celebrity, just important in general etc while having none of the traits to do so
- lack of accountability
- being extremely insecure about their appearance yet still posting theirselves online
- lying and larping about anything and everything
obviously if someone does these things it doesn't automatically mean = NPD
these are just some traits.
one last thing a narcissistic person will do is prioritise random people and the people they put on a pedestal instead of their actual close friends and family. they will go to the world for people who don't even like them for approval yet manipulate and abuse their close ones. this one irks me to my soul ngl.
finally, just a DSM-5 for narcissistic personality disorder (don't self diagnose) perhaps you relate to a few but this post isn't to call anyone a narcissist
