I am a 16-year-old male who is 5ft8 or 172.72 cm, and I am really confused. Based on charts online, I would guess my body fat percentage is anywhere from 20-25%. It is common sense that to grow, whether it is muscle or height, I need to eat. But also, after doing some research online, I've heard people say many things about having a lower body fat percentage to grow taller. It makes sense that having high body fat would cause one to lose testosterone in their body and it would be converted into estrogen, which would close the growth plates faster. I do not currently weight train, but I am planning on doing starting next week, I would say I have about 1 year of inconsistent training. Should I try going on a small cut to reduce body fat and then bulk? Or should I bulk and not worry about gaining fat? What do I do?
