I disagree with your title, for the most part.
True philosophy is your own metaphysical interpretation. Don't live by how Plato taught.
If you're only learning philosophy for debate, you won't enjoy it.

Most philosophers who argue just use other people's arguments.
No critical thinking, just regurgitation.
