a favorite, surprisingly engaging, im happy to have read it if only for entertainment / to retain a few platitudes.

the big boy philosophers could only dream of conveying so much existential dread in all their collected tomes as this guy does in one novella.

have you read any from Fyodor Dostoevsky? ive seen similar praise for his works but unfortunately havent been able to actually read them either. there are some beautiful quotes that are impactful so i save them in my quotes notes LMFAO

not an authority on him by any means, only read "the double" on recommendation. very amusing.

made my head hurt, bloated prose compared to tolstoy.

yeah i getcha. i think it was probably different given the time and the fact language constantly changes but i struggle with too much prose. i also struggle with too much filler. i primarily read modern nonfiction or self help which contributes to that feeling of “this could’ve been summarized on a few pages”. i think those type of self help books are soulless n probably ruined the joy for reading fr.

how did you read the book? library, purchased, digitally? etc etc
