Currently majoring in psychology and minor biology. I already did all of the major classes for my minor (genchem cellstruc etc) so it’s all electives. I am about to start my sophomore year at university.

Haven’t taken many psych classes, but that is due to me originally wanting to go to med school. Though this caught me astray not because of the coursework, I got As in very hard college classes (high iq autist). I don’t want to spend hours in the hospital I get very overstimulated and get really sad and isolated when I leave the environment (I feel this a lot even when I’m working my summer job at Walmart).

I instead want to go the clinical psych route (PhD) which allows me to have free time in my twenties and challenge my brain as well as having a title (need this for parents long story)

The morality why I switched is because I want to help others a lot of the reasoning comes from being severely physically and mentally bullied all of my life while having no friends or consistent family life. Currently 0 friends many other problems but that’s for another thread.
I can talk to others well when I’m not overstimulated and using intelligence I can help others. This is examplified when ever I get the chance to have a friend I ask to many questions and get to know them way to much at one time and respond way to quick. Why wouldn’t I? I have a lot of time.

I can actually get my psych major done next year so I can get my bachelors a year and a half early. I can use this to add a major to expand my options.

My current major and career goal requires me to get a ton of research hours which I have no problem with as long as I find a interesting professor, the end result is private practice but before that would be working for a small firm after PHD. PHD schools are usually tuition free so I’ll save a lot of money (probably will surgerymax then).

But, I’m worried something will happen or deep down my job isn’t secure, like it’s laughable to be a psych major. It doesn’t guarantee a job like engineering or business management or anything and you actually need further education to get things with this major.

I just don’t want to end up working retail or some dead end office job because I picked the wrong major. I wouldn’t be able to get outside and would 100% end up roping it’s not even a question.

Does anyone have any suggestions of majors or maybe justify what I’m doing or give some relatable insight? Sorry for the long confusing text I hope this can be understood❤️Thanks!! (Currently proficient in German and somewhat in Spanish, I’m going to learn a few others to maybe study abroad for more opportunities?) I’m in the USA at the moment

Possibly the worse place to ask for advice on this. Good luck though

I am dual majoring and psych is my second major, definitely not the most secure job, but it just depends on what exactly you want to do and how you network as well.

Mirin effort

I can’t network very well. I can’t do small talk at all because I seriously can’t relate to anyone my aspirations and hobbies are so much different from others

You're in a position to find weird individuals

the intelligence threshold of your studies makes it more likely you'll find like-minded people. It may take time, but keep some hope knowing the odds are increased

Me neither, but I focus on getting my research out, that does a lot for the specialty I am in

That was my hope going the PhD route. The problem is money and making a good living because it’s 100% my goal in life to have biological children and raise them to have way more joyful lives so they don’t have to be like me
