hey, i want to try using retinol again (cerave resurfacing retinol). any tips since ive heard different things like applying moisturizer 10 min later etc. i just want all of the info i can get. i have no acne rn just cleaning up the acne marks.

for more info i had to completely stop my skincare routine to get rid of my acne. i did something called skin fasting which means i did only cleaning with water for a month ish and my acne is gone from that (so one of my products was raping my skin obviously). ive starting using a cleanser and that didnt make my skin worse so im keeping it in, then a moisturizer which didnt make my skin worse so im keeping that in too, now i want to bring it retinol to see if my skin likes it as well.

Wean your skin into it

first go 1-2 times a week and after 2 months or so, increase usage by a day, and so on

There are multiple topical vitamin A derivatives : Tretinoin, retinol, adapalène and retinal

I recommend adapalene and retinal because it's not needed to be degraded by the skin to be absorbed, and this is less harsher than the pthers, especially with small %

But skincare and sun protection is mandatory to use vitamin A derivatives so go find a moisturizer with : glycerin, hyaluronic acid and titane dioxide on it, even if you're a male use moisturizer marketed for women

im gonna stop using it actually. im not even 17 yet i dont need any anti aging. i was doing fine without it anyways, all its doing rn is bringing back acne and drying out my skin. all im gonna use is a cleanser and occasional moisturizer. rn i just need to healthmaxx and i VILL have good skin, eventually. it already got way better since i stopped using a million different products every day

It’s purging the acne, that means it’s working. There’s usually a period of purging when someone starts using retinol. You don’t have to use it anymore if you don’t want but it’s completely normal for that to happen
