To begin, start with some short fasts, just to see how your body reacts. I suggest doing a couple of 3-4 day fasts.
Obviously do not eat or drink anything with calories in it (this includes "zero calorie" foods like chewing gum or monster zero ultra, as they do actually contain calories but they can be legally marketed as zero calorie)
After you've done your trial fasts, you can start doing longer ones. Ideally you should keep fasts between 4-10 days because it takes about 2-3 days for your body to go into deep ketosis.
* Ketosis is a metabolic state that occurs when your body burns fat for energy
I don't recommend going for longer than 10 days as at that point you significantly increase your risk of electrolyte deficincies.
After you're done with a fast, have a refeed day. You should start with liquid foods like cucumbers or watermelons. then after a couple of hours you can eat normal food. Make sure you get get a good intake of electrolytes and micronutrients during this time to prepare for your next fast (this is crucial) and do not exceed your calorie maintenance.
If you are experiencing cravings you can either go to sleep or eat ice (this will trick your brain into thinking you've eaten).
Do not work out during fasts. You can however go for walks and burn calories that way.
