The price one must pay for a group to accept them is learning to conform to whatever social standards they have at any and all costs along with being attuned and intelligent enough to recognize unspoken rules without ever being called for it in meaningful ways. No one owes you anything, but you also owe them nothing too and everyone implicitly knows this so they will evaluate if you're good enough to meet whatever standards have been set in place.
This also means that ever even suggesting you have any right to it is quite arrogant and its actually up to everyone else to decide if you are worth it, I myself will need to get better so I can conform.
