My dear sir, the venom which so frequently poisons discourse upon this forum proceeds chiefly from this melancholy fact, that its denizens are, for the most part, but representatives of the common multitude, that vast and unrefined body of mankind which has ever wanted that instinctive decency and restraint of manner which alone render civil conversation possible among persons of cultivation. When freed from the salutary checks of good breeding, personal acquaintance, and the silent censure of polite society, they too readily indulge the baser passions with a licence that borders upon the barbarous.
