Technically America was winning the war and the reason they dropped the bomb was likely to show the Soviet Union at the time who was in charge

Tho even tho the reason America did that was definitely not Nobel, the Japanese were planning to fly over California and deploy literal bubonic plague infected bugs into the major cities 😭

Which would’ve likely happened as they wanted to do this just one month after the bombs were dropped. The dropping of the bombs was the reason they didn’t follow through with this

I mean not that it justifies all the average ppl killed but let’s not pretend Japan wouldn’t do the same they literally wanted to let bugs loose cause they didn’t have nukes themselves

Dnr but it was unnecessary

it was unnecessary, by that point Japan was months away from losing the war because the ussr was gearing up for a massive naval invasion. we could've sat on our laurels and let them win it for us at the cost of exactly 0 American lives.

Lol they surrendered before they dropped the bombs, and was 2 really necessary? They also attacked other cities too btw not just Nagasaki and Hiroshima
some of the japanese leadership surrendered. but they were fractured and their were plenty that wanted to fight to the bitter end.

the bombs saved more lives than they took.

operation olympic and operation coronet were in planning. casualty predictions for those ranged, from as few as 250k allied deaths to over a million. And japanese military and civilian deaths would have been in the millions.

japanese defensive plans would have used mass civilian mobilization, kamikazes, and guerilla resistance. it would not have ended with less casualties than the nukes.

the soviet union steamrolled manchuria and likely would have soon done the same to hokkaido. that would not have been pleasant either.

Drop bombs on hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians to show who's boss to another country
