Think of it like a party. You drift around from conversation to conversation. People are huddled together, laughing, cracking jokes, and telling stories with their friends. You butt in on one conversation. As you talk, a sense of awkwardness and discomfort drifts into the air. Eventually, somebody says we should really check out the food, and another person goes over to talk to another friend they strung along just in case. You talk to so many people, watching their joyous faces slowly turn neutral.
So many parties like this. The air gets tighter. The music keeps hammering your head. People continue bonding under the neon haze. Bad decisions are made. Treasured memories are formed. Your eyes cannot bear to look up from the ground. Your mind locks your feet in place while you go in circles. Fuck it. You walk out the front door into the night. You drive back home to your apartment. Nobody notices you are gone.
