When we see someone tremble, we often don’t just see their anxiety, we see an opportunity to feel more solid. Not because we are truly stronger, but because their fragility offers us an immediate comparison.

It’s as if the other persons weakness becomes a ladder. He goes down, so I feel like I go up.

But the point is, the sense of superiority often doesn’t come from true confidence. It comes from relief.

It’s the relief of not being, at least for a moment, the one who is not fragile.
