i recently watched a tiktok that dueted another tiktok talking about the pink tax. the video basically claimed that the pink tax doesn't exist because of supply and demand. now on a surface level this makes sense because the beauty industry heavily profits off of women. the issue with that is does this include basic hygiene products such as shampoo and conditioner? and again yes technically i mean there is a reason why men have 3 in 1 hygiene products but what about children's products? why are the girls body wash more expensive then the boys? are the parents just not washing their sons? and what about razors? males use razors everyday while women only use them every 3 or 4 days? anyways i really want to hear everyone's thoughts on this and whether the supply and demand video is just straight bullshit or not.

Can It be both because men also aren’t as hygienic but I agree it does exist.

but what about children's products? why are the girls body wash more expensive then the boys? are the parents just not washing their sons? and what about razors?
these are all explained with supply and demand too, economics 101.

the female products usually sell more, so it would be more profitable if the price was higher. hence, they raise the price of the female products while leaving the male products the same price as they do not sell as high. this is the case regardless if it were children etc.

this is not only exclusive to women though. take the scenario of male and female football jerseys. the male football jerseys sell more, so it would be profitable to increase the price of those and decrease the price of female ones. it would be stupendous to consider this case as misandry, right?

corporations only interest is to make money, they wouldn't go out of their way to oppress a certain demographic (if it wasn't profitable). the pink tax is honestly one of the worst feminist myths to exist behind the gender pay gap.

Pink tax exists because women are willing to pay batshit amount of money on selfcare unlike men.
Just don't allow it in your life, reduce it to the bare minimum

That's pretty much how i ended-up giving one of my safety razors and my phillips one blade to my fiancée

Most women are trying to fit a beauty standard (whether for themselves or men Idk) and will not allow just the bare minimum

your right on the first part. i dont think the pink tax exists exclusively to oppress women. it is used to take advantage and profit off our insecurities. that is what i think the issue is about. idk abt the last part tho. not all men watch/enjoy football. it is not a necessity. meanwhile shampoo and conditioner is and it is also something you buy much more often. its clearly not a myth. women do have to pay more for the same products as men, the reasoning behind it however is purely capitalistic. doesn't mean its fair.

men's fashion is SHIT, i always buy from women's they are better and it has more designs btw, thats why women's fashion cost more, shampoo and conditioner, men use like fucking 5 in 1 bullshit shampoos with shit ton of chemicals, while females by expensive ones, most men dont even use shampoo and condition, women buy it more, so it makes sense to make women's products more expensive than men's
