People here are not good at being nice about someone's appearance if they find them ugly, so the fact you have a lot of people here saying you're pretty should be some external validation that you might not look like how you feel like you do.

People tell me I'm handsome all the time, but I kind of feel a bit resentful when people tell me that for some reason lmfao. I'm not sure if this will help you, but it made me feel a bit better when I told it to myself: You're allowed to wear what you want, whenever you want, whether you're conventionally attractive or not. Does beauty make life easier, and is it nice to be beautiful? Yes, but no matter what side of the scale you end up on, it should not prevent you from being happy with your family or make you feel like you need to hide yourself away in your house. You're a human being who has life experiences and existence outside of her appearance, it should not be the thing you boil yourself down to.

I'm obviously not dismissing the importance of beauty, I mean you should understand that I obviously care about that stuff too :p, but self hatred is not self improvement. You only kneecap yourself from becoming who you want to be when you focus on how much you hate your appearance.

yeah tbh people here have no filter, like if (a certain someone) was to say this same thing, people wouldn't care, it's brutal.

At least she knows the community is honest when it comes down to this sort of thing

this helped a lot, thank you! you’re right, focusing so much on self hatred is just going to hold me back. also, i’ll start telling myself what you tell yourself. πŸ˜›
