Because the meaning of life is metaphorical. It's not set in stone to be the same for everyone.
Some people's final goal may be to reproduce, others may be to save sick children.
It doesn't put the other purpose down; they are both equal.
To say there's no meaning to life is to essentially give up, but it can be argued that one's purpose could be to give up, lay down and rot away. Showing that no meaning, in of itself is a meaning of life for someone.

I'm unironically reading the Bhagavad Gita rn (originally bought it as a joke cuz muh Oppenheimer), but the main focus of the book is fulfilling one's duty. If your duty was to kill people in a battle, then you were supposed to do just that, not be a merchant or a farmer. I'm bad at explaining, so I recommend checking out actual explanations (it's actuslly pretty interesting). The famous quote "Now I am become death, the Destroyer of Worlds" is probably not what you might think it's about. It's about doing one's duty actually.
