Has anyone here had any equivalent schooling to an A-level?

I'm trying to decide between System Software Development, or physics.
My school can't even teach it JFL, I'd have to go to another school.
Whereas physics is very established, and will open up many more doors.

I have the grades for it, I'm sitting on an A*A in my GCSE science.
Thoughts?

do what you think you will enjoy most

i have never heard of that first option as an A level, is it new?

An A* in GCSE Science did not prepare me from the jump in year 12 tbh but I think doing physics is a really good A-Level I wish I took it but the smartest person I know struggles with it

Bio is the only reason I'm not on A*A* rn, fuck it.
I'm not going into the medical field anyways.
Ahh man what you struggling with? Its content heavy as opposed to actual understanding with the other 2 sciences

A level was enjoyable, just not useful for me

I don't think anyone enjoys physics, but it's the better option.

Northern Ireland curriculum is horrendous. It's mainly about digital infrastructure, and how systems work.

Yeah that's what I'm fearing lol, everyone hypes it up to be the fucking devil.

You just have to get use to the way the mark scheme works because its all applied knowledge unlike GCSE where physics isn't too hard
it does depend what you want to do in the future though, if you want to do engineering you should take it

I'm completely fine for human biology, environmental biology just pisses me off. So dull bro.

when you say A* do you mean 9 or 8?

if you're on a 9 then yeah for sure
Yeah. An A is an 8, and an A* is a 9. My curriculum is weird, I get two GCSEs for my science.

I was between medicine and physiques when I wanted to go to uni
Let’s ask @Darkeningstar
He'd be a physics-biased boyo. I'm 100% not doing biology and chemistry, fuck no. 😭

i think many enjoy the concepts, but it's difficulty causes people to dislike it

ah i see. it seems limited in terms of future pathways. i think physics would be the better option, as that SSD one sounds like the level of specialisation you'd get into at university

maths ability is the biggest factor

Ahhh yeah it’s boring as fuck
Doesn’t get better at all at a level either

Mhm, that's what my dad is telling me. Ultimately, I'd major in something tech related, like cybersecurity or AI development.

I'm fine for that. Mensa ain't for nothing. :peepoComfy:

both good options, physics would be looked better upon for university appplications, if for no reason other than it is more well known

then yes you'd be fine, it will be hard but for most with good maths ability and high iq it is very manageable
i assume you will take maths too?

Yeah. Optimally, it'll be: Maths, Economics, and Physics/SSD. It'll likely be Physics now.

I'm fine for maths as well. I got 398/400 on my regular maths, and I'm doing further right now.

nice combination. would you consider further maths A or AS level also? I have heard Physics makes FS1 and FS2 a breeze, or the other way round, can't quite remember

Looks like you're good on the maths side too, i think you would do well in physics

Further maths isn't offered in my school, brutal.

That is very unfortunate. I know 2 people who tried to self-study it, one did AS and did very well, A or A* i believe, the other went for the full A level and came out scraping a B, however they were more than clever enough to achieve an A or A* if it was properly taught
