This may be a brutal realization for many males, especially looksmaxxers on TikTok who refuse to open their mouths and fraud with forced lip posture, but your smile and teeth matters A LOT. We already widely understand how important a wide maxilla, dental arch, and alveolar bone is, but tooth size also matters a lot. In a study performed in Iran, “Evaluation of the effect of tooth size on smile attractiveness from the perspective of art students, dental students, and laypeople in Sanandaj, Iran, 2017” width to height ratios in teeth of 65%-90% were analyzed, each width to height ratio being a morph of a pre existing smile, among every single group polled 65%-70% was found the least attractive. Small teeth indicate malnutrition, and a maldeveloped mandible and maxilla. Some of the most important development markers such as the maxilla’s width and the length of the ramus all play factors to the size of the tooth, causing the more dimorphic tooth to be the wider one.

We can see here in this figure (figure 1) that larger tooth size is attributed to males, and the sizes which would give the ideal ratio are on the upper end of the reference range, similar to the percentage of reference range where height is found attractive.

Below I will attach two smiles, they are not quite the same in terms of width but by no means is the small toothed smile bad. There are full buffaloes corridors on each and each smile also has a very similar amount of gum show. One smile has taller and smaller teeth which fall in the unattractive range, while the other has wider and larger teeth which fall in the attractive range of the category. Images are attached

Totally maximizing dimorphism has lots to do with development, the tooth and smile pill are rather brutal. The only real options for those with microdontia (abnormally small teeth) or any teeth with size over 30% below reference range are some sort of veneer or crown, or dental composite bonding where the teeth can first be separated through an orthodontic appliance and then have composite attached to them to increase the size.

I can fix my small teeth with veneers

I never thought about this before. Good read. What made you look into the size of your teeth and how it relates to attraction?

I have big normal sized teeth, though I screwed it up a bit with fighting. Does this mean I’m not malnourished

Interesting experience I had yesterday.

Until I read this thread I never thought about how the size of your teeth may effect how people perceive your smile.

I knew recessed gums may create a bad aesthetic and I knew some point got gums removed for extreme cases, but I never thought about it being done for cosmetic cases.

For the first time ever, even after years of getting my teeth cleaned regularly and getting ortho work done, has anyone commented on the aesthetic appearance of my teeth. He said my teeth looked "small" and "short" and getting some gum removed may improve the appearance.

I kind of was surprised about the comment ngl because I never legitimately thought about it before. So I'm going to look into what I can do to get some gum removed after my braces are off.

I know the post is mainly about width but I thought the timing was interesting.
