I decided to make a very detailed eyebrow guide since eyebrows are one of the easiest things to max that still has a huge impact on how you look.
I have been getting so many compliments on how I look since I found the perfect shape while people still can’t pinpoint exactly what changed, which says a lot about what eyebrows can do for overall harmony.
If you still need to be convinced, here is a before and after of Jessica Alba with photoshopped brows:

It’s shocking how she goes from stunning to average just by giving her bad eyebrows.
A few basics on the distance from the eyes:
Eyebrows that are higher up elongate your face. You might or might not want that depending on your proportions. Here is this exact effect on Ariana Grande:

The higher brows add a lot of length. You obviously don’t want that if your face is on the longer side, but it might be beneficial for someone with a super short face.
To achieve that look, pluck a few rows of hair from underneath of the entire brow. Do NOT pluck only under the arch, this will just give you a super high arch and a tadpole shape and you will look permanently angry. You want to pluck from the start of the brow to the tail equally.
Eyebrows close to the eyes shorten the face. Here is Natalie Portman as an example:

If you want your face to look more compact, you want to keep your brows closer to the eyes.
This also makes your eyes look bigger, like this optical illusion:

The eyebrows being lower has a similar effect to the circle being closer to the dot.
I am sure that this effect contributes to how striking Adriana Lima’s eyes are:

To achieve this, let your eyebrows grow a few rows underneath and pluck a few from above. Again, only work in rows or else you will create holes.
The basics of thickness:
Very big eyebrows are popular right now but they aren’t everyone’s best look. In general you need stronger and larger features to pull them off such as Brooke Shields who has a well-defined bone structure and her features add some width to her face. The rest of her features don’t have to compete against her brows to be visible, everything is balanced:

On the other hand, Megan Fox who has a bit more narrow features and smaller eyes loses some of her sultriness and intensity with the thicker brows:

In general I would say that people with smaller eyes and more narrow and sharp features should stay away from very thick eyebrows. They are better for people with a more broad bone structure.
Lily Collins is another example of a face overpowered by too thick eyebrows:

Also Nina Dobrev whose eye area is completely closed off by thick eyebrows:
compared to thinner ones:
Thick eyebrows also add a more innocent and cute look while thinner eyebrows look more sultry so you have to consider which choice suits your whole image.
Where the brows should start and end:
Don’t use your nostrils as a guide. A wide nose will make them too far apart and a narrow nose will make them too close together.
You can use the start of your brows to make your face appear more wide or narrow depending on what you want to achieve.
Zendaya’s inner corners are more close together which makes her face a bit more center-heavy around the eye area. This can be a good look for people who feel like their eyes are too far apart/ their nose is too wide or in general their features feel “too spread out” if that makes sense:

Monica Bellucci’s eyebrows are further apart, adding width to the eye area:

If your eyes are more close set, you can start the brow as far out as the inner corner of your eye.
Jennifer Aniston’s eyes looked less close-set when her eyebrows were further apart:

About the arch:
One of the most common mistakes is the brow suddenly getting bigger around the arch instead of having even thickness. It’s like the opposite of the tadpole brow and it still gives a quite weird and heavy shape.
Camilla Belle is an example, notice how her arch is thicker than her inner corner and almost makes her brows look like a semicircle:

And of course the arch starting too far in and giving an angry triangular look like Olivia Wilde. The part that goes down after the arch should be the outer third of the brow while here it’s almost half of the brow:

The tail of the brow:
It should never end lower than the inner corner of the brow because it will drag the eye down. Ideally it should end higher, or at least at the same height.
Rihanna is an example of high tails lifting the face:

How arched should the brow be:
A more straight brow makes the face look shorter and a more arched one makes the face longer. People with a long midface should avoid high arches.
Even if you opt for a straight brow, it should still have an upward direction like this instead of being a straight horizontal line:

The problem with the horizontal line is that it can make you look sad when you have a resting face and it can look unnatural. Keeping a higher tail prevents that:

How to decide what’s best:
The reason why I didn’t make this based on face is shape is because it’s one of the least important factors as you can tell by now.
Let’s say you have a round face. According to the face-shape guides you should get high arches to make your face look more oval. But in reality this will just make you look angry because you will create a very sharp angle in a circle. What you want to do instead is make your eyebrows a bit higher up and create some distance from the eyes while keeping a soft arch, Selena Gomez is an example:

Always work with the proportions of your face and the spacing of your features, not the face shape itself.
In my opinion you shouldn't leave the shape choice to a professional because they often do the exact same thing on everyone or they give you the shape that is the easiest with what you currently have, but it might not be the best. If you can't do your eyebrows alone, at least figure out what you need, find some photos of it and show them to a professional, but don't let them choose the whole shape for you. You should already have a good idea on what shape you need by figuring out what flatters your proportions. A professional won't consider things like your eye distance or midface length even though they are very affected by your eyebrows
